Prior to my
earliest work in art quilts in the Washington DC area, I had
pursued a career in community mental health during which time I took evening
courses in drawing, painting, and art history. Two events sparked
my interest in the quilt medium in 1977. The first was a course by
noted quilt historian and teacher, Elly Sienkiewicz; the second was
college level training in surface design.
