Sunrise at Haleakala
Maui, both second youngest and second largest of the Hawaiian Islands, is home to the world's largest dormant volcano, Haleakala, meaning "House of the Sun." Last erupting about 200 years ago, it makes up the eastern end of the island.

A trip to Maui is never complete without viewing a magnificent sunrise from atop Haleakala. Watching the sunrise at the crater summit can be a very religious (and cold) experience.

Haleakala is a volcano 33 miles long, and some say you can fit the entire island of Manhattan inside of this crater.
